Legal Mandate

The Ministry of Roads and Bridges is established by Presidential Decree and derives its authority from the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan. The Ministry is charged with formulating and implementing national policies for the development, maintenance, and regulation of roads and bridges infrastructure across all ten states and three administrative areas.

Core Functions

• Develop and implement national policies, standards, and regulations for roads and bridges.
• Plan, design, construct, and maintain the national road and bridge network.
• Coordinate infrastructure development with state governments, development partners, and private sector stakeholders.
• Manage procurement of works, goods, and consultancy services for infrastructure projects.
• Monitor and enforce quality, safety, and environmental standards on all infrastructure works.
• Issue road condition notices, safety alerts, and traffic management directives.
